Best WOVEN Communication Project Award, Individual or Collaborative

Awards are given for the best WOVEN communication projects completed individually or collaboratively by Georgia Tech students in (1) English 1101 and 1102 and (2) LMC 3403/3431/3432: Technical Communication. Effective WOVEN projects represent excellence in multimodality, integrating several aspects of written, oral, visual, electronic, nonverbal communication.

Eligibility

All Georgia Tech students in English 1101 and English 1102 and in LMC 3403/3431/3432 in each academic calendar year are eligible. One award is given for a WOVEN 1101 or 1102 project. A second one is given for a WOVEN 3403/3431/3432 project. Projects can be individual or collaborative.

Nomination

Below are the application requirements for  nomination.

  1. Nomination Form
  2. Letter of nomination from the instructor, identifying the course, the name(s) of the student(s), the assignment, and the way(s) in which the project demonstrates excellence in multimodal communication.
  3. Actual work directly supporting application.

 

Selection

Committee

The Selection Committee will include the Director of Writing and Communication, the Associate Director of Writing and Communication, and the Assistant Director of Writing and Communication.

Criteria

These awards recognize excellence in an innovative individual or collaborative WOVEN (written|oral|visual|electronic|nonverbal) project completed for 1101, 1102, or 3403/3431/3432. An effective WOVEN project integrates several aspects of multimodal communication. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to make the WOVEN Awards during any given year.

Awards

$300 for 1101/1102 and $300 for 3403/3431/3432. In the case of a collaborative project, the award must be shared equally among the collaborators.

Details

Dates

These awards are given once a year, including work from any semester during that year. An announcement will be distributed both in the fall and spring. Applications will be accepted in at the beginning of April. The awards will be announced in April and presented at the James Dean Young LMC Awards Event in April.

Archive

All nominations and winning projects are eligible to be archived with SMARTech and on the Writing and Communication Program website.

Submission

Submit completed applications by 5 PM on May 11th to the Associate Director of the Writing and Communication Program, Dr. Andy Frazee at “andy.frazee@lmc.gatech.edu."
