Current initiatives undertaken by Writing and Communication faculty include the following:
Georgia Tech Podcasts
The Brittain Fellow Podcast Committee is currently running two podcast series. The first, "Stories We Tell Our Robots," is produced by Dr. Tobias Wilson-Bates and focuses on how technology shapes us as humans and vice versa. The second, "The Office Hour" focuses on all things academic.
Student View Exhibit
The Arts Initiatives Committee coordinates arts-focused initiatives for students and Brittain Fellows alike. These initiatives vary per academic year, as committee leadership seeks to fill existing requests and needs. Committee-led faculty-facing events include round table discussions focused on concrete ways of incorporating the arts into writing and communication courses, regardless of course theme. Example student-facing events include the Student View art exhibit, which coincides with the Tech Arts Festival.
The Writing and Communication Program developed a new custom textbook for English 1101 and English 1102, which was adopted in Fall 2015. This new digital textbook continues to address the program’s WOVEN multimodal teaching philosophy and includes many sections written by Writing and Communication faculty.
Examples of the collaborations between the Writing and Communication Program and the Georgia Tech Library can be found on the new Co-Labs website. Collaborations with other units on campus as well as with community partners will be spotlighted in the future.
