Ariel Fried received her M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University in 2019 and her Ph.D. in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a graduate minor in Women’s and Gender Studies in 2024. Her research specializations include many of the weird and pressing anxieties of the Victorian period, as expressed in realist novels, Gothic and sensation fiction, and in the science and medicine of the period. Her current projects examine disability tropes in Victorian realist fiction and draw formal parallels between Victorian sexology treatises and late-nineteenth-century erotica. When not in front of a classroom or knee-deep in research, Fried enjoys hiking, tending her houseplants, and frequenting local coffee shops and bakeries.
