Overview

Matthew (Francis) Ittenbach is a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD in English from Emory University, and has previously taught at Emory and Georgia State University. His research argues that poetry plays a critical role in shaping contemporary environmental discourse, and his work focuses on twentieth and twenty-first century global anglophone poetry and ecocritical theory. His current book project reveals and critiques the ways in which anglophone ecopoetry, particular poetry of rivers, coastlines, and other waterscapes, contributes to global environmental discourse and theorizes new ways of understanding humans' relationships with our environments. Francis is also an award-winning poet.
