Owen Cantrell (PhD in English, Georgia State University; MA in English, Georgia State University; BA in Philosophy, Miami (OH) University) studies nineteenth century American literature and its relationship to labor in American culture. His dissertation, “The Logic of Labor in Nineteenth-Century American Literature,” relates the lessons of historical materialism to literary production in nineteenth-century America after the Market Revolution. Owen has written on Midwestern literature in MidAmerica and the forthcoming Rediscovering the American Midwest volume Pieces of the Heartland: Representing Early Twentieth-Century Midwestern Places. He has also written on Bruce Springsteen and folk music in the forthcoming Routledge Studies in Popular Music collection Bruce Springsteen and Popular Music: Rhetoric, Memorial, and Contemporary Culture. Owen has taught classes on “Composition & Comedy,” “The Rhetoric of Non-Violence,” “Epistemology in Detective Fiction and Film Noir,” and “The Power of ‘Truthiness’: Thinking and Writing Empirically in a Post-Fact World.”
