Brittain Fellows Prepare for New Positions in Higher Ed

As Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellows, recent Ph.D. recipients have the opportunity to work as short-term faculty members in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) and to develop professionally and innovate in areas of teaching, research, and service.

During the three-year, highly selective fellowship, the postdoctoral teaching fellows instruct first-year composition and other communication classes and participate in semester-long postdoctoral seminars sponsored by the Writing and Communication Program (WCP). Many fellows also support student success as consultants in the Naugle Communication Center. Brittain Fellows account for nearly half of the 80 faculty in LMC and teach 5,500 Georgia Tech students each year in their composition and communication classes.

This year, 15 Brittain Fellows have accepted positions at higher education institutions across the United States:

• Greg Brennen, assistant teaching professor of English and writing at the University of Tampa
• Shinjini Chattopadhyay, assistant professor of global anglophone literatures at Berry College
• Josh Cohen, lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Georgia
• Sean DiLeonardi, assistant professor of English and director of digital studies at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg
• Jeff Howard, assistant professor of English and director of the University Writing Center at Converse University
• Lizzy LeRud, postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Education
• Kent Linthicum, visiting assistant professor of English at The College of Wooster
• Leah Misemer, assistant director at the Georgia Tech Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program
• Rachel Robinson, assistant professor of the practice and assistant director of the composition program at Fairfield University
• Kendra Slayton, visiting assistant professor of medieval literature at Clemson University
• Molly Slavin, assistant professor of English at Clark Atlanta University
• Emily Smith, assistant professor of English at Brenau University
• Anu Thapa, assistant professor of cinema studies at Virginia Tech
• George Thomas, visiting assistant professor of English at Guilford College
• Julia Tigner, assistant professor of English in African American literature at Jacksonville State University

The new cohort of Brittain Fellows will be announced in early August, and the new faculty members will begin teaching in the Fall 2022 semester.

The Writing and Communication Program (WCP) in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
